Saraki swears in Garbai Kaka as Senator representing Borno Central

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki on Wednesday swore-in Alhaji Baba Kaka Garbai as Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.


Amid Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s outcry and rejection of the last Saturday by-election poll at the district, Garbai, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as winner of the Senatorial by-election necessitated by the death of the late Senator Ahmed Zannah, who died shortly after being inaugurated into the 8th Senate.

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki on Wednesday announced the names of lawmakers that would chair the different senate committees for the 8th Senate.


The list as read out by Saraki during Plenary has Senator Ben Murray Bruce as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatization. Senate Committee on Defence is to be chaired by Sen. Ahmed Lawan, while Senator Dino Melaye heads the committee on Federal Capital Territory.


PTAD verifies 3,800 federal pensioners in Kaduna

The Pension Transitional Arrangements Directorate (PTAD), ‎has commenced the verification and biometric data capturing of no fewer than 3,800 federal civil service pensioners in Kaduna.


The exercise which is aimed at identifying ghost pensioners and capture data of authentic civil service pensioners commenced on the 2nd November, 2015 and expected to end on the 12th November, 2015 in Kaduna and across the other North West states.


NPC commences preparation for 2016 Census

The National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced training of its staff for the First Phase of the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) aimed at producing incontrovertible figures in the proposed 2016 census.

In his opening remarks at the ceremony, which held in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Chairman of the Commission, Chief Eze Duruiheoma said, “the EAD project constitutes the foundation on which the entire proposed census architecture stands.”

“In the pre-census period, the total number of EAD and it’s distribution are required for census, planing particularly the development of personnel, logistics and material for the pre-test, trial census, the main census and the Post Enumeration Survey,” he said.

Afenifere: Fasoranti withdraws resignation letter

The tension generated by the sudden resignation of the National leader of the Pan- Yoruba Group, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti over the weekend has ended with the withdrawal of the letter by the elder statesman.


At an emergency meeting of the group held at the Ijapo residence of Chief Fasoranti, members prevailed on him to withdraw his resignation.


Buhari urged to constitute committee to implement National Conference recommendations

A Kaduna based legal practitioner and member, 2014 National Conference, Barrister John Achimugu, has advocated that a committee be set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to take a critical look at the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference with a view to implement them for the progress of the country.


He told DAILY POST in Kaduna that President Buhari should be patriotic enough to ensure the implementation of the resolutions reached at the 2014 National Conference without considering what politicians would say.

LMC sanctions Sunshine Stars, Sharks

Sharks FC and Sunshine Stars have been sanctioned by the League Management Company (LMC) following separate incidents in Lafia and Akure that led to disruption of their respective Match Day 36 fixtures on Sunday.


The LMC fined Sharks N3,000,000 and Sunshine Stars N5,000,000 with further sanctions that also included Stadium ban and banishment to neutral venue for Sunshine Stars.


Federer defeats Nadal to retain ATP 500 Basel title


 Roger Federer needed three sets to defeat Rafael Nadal in the final of the ATP 500 Basel and retain his title.


The Swiss star had lost his previous five matches against Nadal and appeared to be jittery as he lost the second set.

But Federer took a decisive break in the third to seal a 6-3 5-7 6-3 win on home soil.

It was the 17-time Grand Slam winner’s sixth title of the season and the 88th of his career.


Third seed Nadal, 29, still has a 23-11 head-to-head record against world number three Federer.

New York City have parted company with coach Jason Kreis, after their star-studded squad failed to make the MLS play-offs.


Kreis led the team to an eighth place finish in the Eastern Conference, 12 points outside the play-off places.
The club explained that the decision came after a review of a “disappointing campaign”, having set the target of making the play-offs in their first season.

The lawmaker representing Ojo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Obasa, has charged the Golden Eaglets to repeat the triumph recorded in United Arab Emirates by bringing home the trophy in Chile.

The Golden Eaglets won the inaugural edition of the tournament in China and successfully won the trophy thrice after the feats recorded in the most populous country in 1985.
