Another robbery in Ekiti 12 hours after driver’s death


Barely 12 hours after robbers struck on the Aramoko-Igede Highway in Ekiti State, another robbery has been reported.
The second robbery, which occurred late on Wednesday, happened at a spot not far from the place where a driver, Toyin Kajiko, was killed.
Sources told The Nation yesterday in Ado-Ekiti that a bus conveying 14 passengers was attacked at 8pm but nobody was killed.
The bus was said to be heading to Ado-Ekiti.
The robberies have struck fear in the minds of residents, motorists and commuters.

Police Recover Arms, Ballot Papers In Ex-militant’s Home

Not less than 35 people have been arrested at the residence of Soboma Jackrich, a former militant leader, popularly known as Egberipapa, at Buguma community, Asari Toru local government area of Rivers state.

According to New Telegraph, the raid was conducted by policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), anti-cultism unit, 19 Police Mobile Force (PMF) and 56 PMF in Rivers state.
The raid was said to have been carried out around 4am on Thursday, January 7, by policemen, who stormed a notorious criminal’s hideout in Buguma.

The Secretary General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Joe Nwaorgu, says the approach of the founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to the perceived marginalisation of the Igbo is unacceptable.

Nwaorgu said Kanu’s strategies to correct the alleged imbalance were at variance with that of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo which believed that the problems could be resolved within the country and not through violence.
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent on Thursday, Nwaorgu, however, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to consider releasing Kanu unconditionally.

FG begins direct payment of ex-militants’ stipends

THE Federal Government said it had started the direct payment of three months arrears of stipends owed former Niger Delta militants.
The Chief of Staff to the Office of the Special Adviser to the President and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Col. Dedis Abel (retd.), who disclosed this on Thursday, promised that the Federal Government would henceforth be paying the former agitators directly.

23 die of starvation in Syrian town

Twenty-three people have died of starvation in the besieged Syrian town of Madaya since December 1, Doctors Without Borders said Friday, as the United Nations prepared an aid delivery to the area.
The UN said there were 40,000 people, half of them children, who needed immediate lifesaving assistance in Madaya, where access has been restricted by pro-regime forces.

Damascus on Thursday gave permission for UN agencies to send relief to the town, following reports of starvation deaths among civilians, many of whom have been displaced from the neighbouring rebel stronghold of Zabadani.

Adadevoh family can’t stop Ebola film —Producers

Producers of 93 Days, a film about Nigeria’s battle against Ebola, have said that the family of the late Dr. Stella Adadevoh lacks the power to stop the movie.

Reacting to a letter in which the Adadevoh and Cardoso families of the doctor dissociated themselves from the production, and threatened to take a legal action should the producers continue with the film, they noted that it was not about the late doctor.

In a statement on Wednesday night, the producers, including the Chief Executive Officer of Terra Kulture, Mrs. Bolanle Austen-Peters, said, “We hereby strongly deny allegations contained in the recent press statement released by one Dr. Ama Adadevoh, who claims to be acting on behalf of the Cardoso and Adadevoh families. The allegations are not only untrue, they are also malicious and a calculated attempt to sabotage our feature film, 93 Days.

Leader of the Northern Elders Council, NEC, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has admitted that he and eight other prominent northerners received the sum of N53m from Chief Tony Anenih, but explained that the money was meant for advocacy visit to traditional rulers in the region to mobilised their subjects so that the 2015 general elections could be hitch free.

Yakasai on Wednesday confirmed to Vanguard that, “yes, myself and 8 others collected N53m from Chief Tony Anenih to pay advocacy visit to prominent northern emirs to mobilise their subjects for a hitch-free 2015 general elections”.
