Background music: Movie producer decries recurring distortion of dialogue in some movies

A veteran movie producer, Bond Emeruwa, on Monday decried the recurring incidence of uncoordinated score (background music), which distorted the flow of dialogue in movies.

Emeruwa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the problem stemmed from the way the industry started when all comers were involved in movie production.

“It is getting better, though, it happens in a particular class of movies, which I know with time will be corrected.’’

He added that the advent of professional movie producers in the industry would gradually ease out the problem.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Wednesday described any plan to create grazing fields for herdsmen as “a wicked and abominable act.”


It, therefore, called on the National Assembly to reject any bill intended to allow the creation of such field.
The Christian body, in a statement signed by the Chairman of CAN in the South-East, Most. Rev. David Eberechukwu, said herdsmen were already doing grievous harm to their host communities and that creating such fields would amount to pouring fuel into fire.

INEC recruits 13,000 workers for Kogi election

Ahead of the November 21 gubernatorial election in Kogi State, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, says the commission had recruited and trained 13,000 supervisory and electoral officials to man the 3,000 polling units across the state.

This was as he warned that only the people of Kogi State, and no one else, will determine who their next governor will be.

Yakubu, who was addressing a stakeholders’ forum in Lokoja on Tuesday, said he was determined to build and improve on the achievements of his predecessor, Prof. Attahiru Jega, by making Kogi State election the best ever conducted in the country.

He revealed that all card readers to be used in the next Saturday election had been tested, configured and confirmed to be fit for use during the election, adding that only those with permanent voter cards, PVCs, would be eligible to vote.

The INEC boss further noted that 11 resident electoral commissioners from other states had been mobilised to see to the smooth conduct of the election.

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources has instructed the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to distribute petrol of any filling stations involved in hoarding to customers free of charge.

Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, announced this during his tour and monitoring of fuel stations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) .

He said that the decision became necessary given the attitude of some filling stations to hoard fuel to the detriment of the masses.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) said that 149 trucks loaded with petrol were supplied to Abuja and its environs on Tuesday.

Mr Mohammed Saidu, Head, Public Relations of DPR in a statement in Abuja, said that the supply brought the number of PMS supplied to Abuja between Monday and Tuesday to 294 trucks.

Presidency denies spending N6bn on Buhari’s air fleet since May

The Presidency has debunked media report alleging that an outlandish N6bn has been spent on maintaining the presidential air fleet between May and the present. It clarified that what has so far been expended is only a little above N2bn, which included salaries and repayment of old debts.

Buhari orders arrest of Dasuki, others over arms procurement fraud

Following the findings of the 13 man committee set up by the Office of the National Security Adviser to audit the procurement of arms and equipment in the Armed Forces and Defence sector from 2007 to date as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidency has ordered the immediate arrest of former NSA, Sambo Dasuki, and others. 

In a statement signed by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, the presidency said, though the committee which was inaugurated on 31 August 2015 is yet to complete its work, its interim report has unearthed several illicit and fraudulent financial transactions.

The People’s Elephant held fellow contenders, Warri Wolves, to a goalless draw in front of over 40,000 fans at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Sunday.

Falconets win in South Africa to qualify for World Cup

Nigeria’s U-20 women team defeated South Africa 1-0 on Sunday, to book their place in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea.

Ozil breaks Premier League assists record


Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil, became the first player in Premier League history to provide assists in six consecutive league matches on Sunday.
