Sokari, Junior Ajayi go down at Esperance

Nigeria U-23 stars, Kingsley Sokari and Junior Ajayi started and finished for CS Sfaxien as they lost 2-1 at Esperance in a Tunisian league clash on Sunday.

Sokari and Junior Ajayi were transfer targets for Esperance this year before they eventually signed for Sfaxien.

Sunshine Stars players have threatened to take to the streets if the club management refuses to settle their outstanding salaries and match bonuses.

Mikel not surprised by Ighalo’s form


Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has said he is not surprised by Watford striker, Odion Ighalo, top form in the English Premier League.

Ighalo has scored 13 goals in 18 Premier League games this season, but Mikel, who has played alongside the Hornets forward on international duty with Nigeria, insists that he is not surprised by the form of the former Granada man.

The 28-year-old told the club’s official website: “I am not surprised Odion Ighalo is doing what he is doing. I have chatted with him and played with him in the national team and I can see the talent he has, and even before I have the ball in those games he is already making his run.

“He is a player who likes to exploit the space behind the defence and is a good finisher around the box. He is someone we need to watch out for.”

Police command arrests policemen involved in killing UNIPORT student

Witnesses say that the policemen attempted a hit-and –run, but people around the scene of the occurrence compelled them to take the victim to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, where he eventually died.

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended the policemen in the patrol van which was said to have killed Oghenekevwe Edah, a final year engineering student of the University of Port Harcourt. The policemen are now reportedly being detained at the command headquarters.

The victim was said to have been knocked down while on his way back from Church yesterday, Sunday. He was standing at the Assemblies of God Church Junction, Alakahia, Port Harcourt, when a police van driving against traffic hit him.

A cluster of deadly tornadoes in North Texas was the latest in a succession of freakish winter-weather events over the Christmas holiday that led to at least 43 deaths in parts of the nation.

But as Texas residents assessed the damage Monday, the storm has moved northeast toward the Midwest, exacerbating flooding that already had claimed 13 lives, according to the Associated Press.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator representing Kaduna state at the National Assembly, Shehu Sani has adopted 60 orphans as his children from the Adonai Orphanage Home of the state.

Shehu Sani vowed to take up the bills of 2 of the children from the orphanage home to continue their education in China. He also said he will take up all the expenses of all the orphans in the Home.


The Kaduna-born senator made this known on Sunday, December 27 when he visited the orphanage home to offer food items in the spirit of the festive period.

Goods estimated at about N300m were lost on Sunday as fire razed a section of the Oja-Tuntun Market, Baboko, Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State.
It was gathered that huge cash left in some of the shops were burnt to ashes.

A Jos-based jelly-making factory, Bowlis Industries Nigeria Limited, situated at Rafin-Pa area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state, was weekend, gutted by fire with goods and property worth over N80 million burnt down.

According to the General Manager of the industry, Malam Abubakar Muhammad, who explained the situation to newsmen, the fire which gutted the industry that employs 40 permanent staff and 60 casual workers, started at about 11:00 pm in the wee hours of Friday due to a surge in electricity supply in the area.
Muhammad said workers had closed from work early that day and there was no power supply at the time they left, but he got a call from neighbours who told him that fire had engulfed the factory.
