Buhari urged to constitute committee to implement National Conference recommendations

A Kaduna based legal practitioner and member, 2014 National Conference, Barrister John Achimugu, has advocated that a committee be set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to take a critical look at the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference with a view to implement them for the progress of the country.


He told DAILY POST in Kaduna that President Buhari should be patriotic enough to ensure the implementation of the resolutions reached at the 2014 National Conference without considering what politicians would say.


He noted that the 2014 National Conference was one of the best conferences ever organized in the history of the country, stressing that the composition of membership cut across all segments of the society. “It was the first time that people with diverse opinions came together for the purpose of discussing national problems and finding solutions there to,” he added.


He opined that, “Most of the members came to the conference with nationalistic interest and tremendous energy to find a way to advance and develop full potentials as a country to be reckoned with globally.”
Barrister Achimugu stated that about 600 resolutions were taken and adopted from the works of the various committees set up at the conference, pointing out that there was active debate of all issues with professionals invited in areas that needed clarifications.


He emphasized, “Anybody that sincerely desires a rebirth of the nation will recommend the implementation of the resolutions taken and adopted. If you find some people saying that the conference was a failure and that its resolutions should not be implemented, they are those who are the beneficiaries of marginalized policies that have taken us nowhere in this country and are also seeking to retain their privileges no matter what.”


The legal practitioner expressed dismay over distribution of resources, saying some people enjoy some structural advantage that gives them more funds that they ordinarily are not entitled to, adding that these were issues that were looked into in the conference.
