Chelsea will be forced to pay compensation to Fiorentina for Salah debacle — report

After a lengthy battle of words and open threats from his previous loan club Fiorentina towards any Serie A club that wanted him in the last transfer window, (now) former Chelsea attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah ended up at AS Roma, first on loan, then pretty much permanently starting in October when the Giallorossi exercised their buy-option (this may or not be completely official just yet).

The debacle, started due to Salah's refusal to return to La Viola and (allegedly) breaking a clause in his loan contract (or separate agreement), ended up in FIFA's arbitration courts with the Italians seeking compensation from the Blues for the player's failure to fulfill the previously agreed terms.

According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport — via Football Italia — FIFA is expected to give its verdict on January 25, with the most likely outcome being Chelsea having to pay Fiorentina the compensation they are seeking as Salah was part of Juan Cuadrado's transfer agreement. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah will be free of any charges.

If true, it's unlikely that Chelsea will give in the punishment given by the arbitration court — see the judicial battle between Chelsea, Juventus and Livorno over Adrian Mutu's transfer from 2004 to 2015. In any case, it seems that the Salah-Days of Our Lives saga is set to continue with at least another chapter, but it doesn't seem to be reaching its conclusion just yet.
