Group Accuses Faleke Of Planning To Cause Chaos

There is palpable tension in Kogi state over an alleged plot by James Faleke and his supporters to throw Kogi state into chaos ahead of the January 27, 2016 swearing-in ceremony in the state.

Faleke has opposed Bello’s emergence as governor on the grounds that he was supposed to be declared governor-elect, not running mate or deputy governorship candidate.

Recall that Falake was the running mate to late Abubakar Audu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 21 governorship election in the state but the party leadership chose Bello as the late Audu’s replacement to contest the supplementary election which Bello eventually won.

Faleke has however opposed Bello’s emergence as governor insisting that he was supposed to be declared governor-elect, not running mate or deputy governorship candidate.

Now, a group known as the Kogi United for Justice has alleged that “Faleke and his loyalists are planning to cause crisis in the state in the guise of violent protests to make the state look unsafe”.

According to Daily Post, the group in a statement described Faleke’s alleged plot to cause chaos in the state as akin to political terrorism.

It said: “Information at our disposal revealed that after succeeding in foisting crisis on the legislative arm of government, Faleke and his loyalists are planning to cause crisis in the state in the guise of violent protests to make the state look unsafe.
“We are of the opinion that the different interests in the Kogi political impasse will trust the judiciary enough to act fearlessly in favour of the law and therefore, it is antithetical to resort to violence to achieve goals. Kogi State belongs to all and we will not sit by to watch those who have no stake in the survival of Kogi destroy our unity and peace.

The group flayed Faleke and his loyalists for their “non-committal spirit to the peace, oneness and development of our dear state”.
“We have it on good authority that they have started recruiting thugs from two South Western states who will be used to disturb the peace of the state.

“To cover-up their nefarious plan, they have also designed some self-attack against some leaders in their group, who would then turn round to accuse the people’s Governor-Elect for the attack.
The group urged Faleke to abide by the decision of the party and shun his plan to attack eminent leaders of the state in the process of ventilating his grievances.

Meanwhile, some members of the APC in Kogi state have urged James Falake to refrain from contesting the election that saw Yahaya Bello emerge as governor elect of the state.

This was contained in a communiqué issued by three top members of the group; Richard Asaje, Migbole Samuel and Muhammed Musa at the end of its meeting on Tuesday, December 22.
