Sunshine Stars Set To Return To Akure Township Stadium After LMC Pardon
-
The League Management Company have pardoned Sunshine Stars of Akure, as
the Nigeria Professional Football League side can now return to the
Akure Township Stadium for their home game this coming season.
The NPFL side were banished from the Akure stadium towards the end of
last season following the unruly behaviour of their fans in last
season’s Week 36 fixture against Lobi Stars.
The Akure club fanatics attacked match officials during an ongoing game
which was in favour of the Makurdi based outfit, leading by a lone goal
in the fierce encounter that saw play halted in the 77th minute, and
this made them completed their season in Lagos.
But the club's spokesperson, Wahab Bankole disclosed that the LMC have
shown Sunshine mercy by lifting the ban on the Akure stadium, saying it
is a good news to the entire club.
“I’m pleased to inform you that Sunshine Stars have been cleared to play
their NPFL home games at the Akure Township Stadium,” media officer
Wahab Bankole confirmed to Goal.
“This is cheering for us as it will boost our confidence level going into the new season.
“We have learnt our lessons and will do all it takes to prevent a repeat
of the occurrence that resulted to the initial LMC action,” he
concluded.
