The
Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2015/2016 season which
resumes on February 21 will be full of glamour as IfeanyiUbah Football
Club of Nnewi have signed 10 Brazilian nationals.
Six
of the players touched-down in Lagos on Wednesday and will head
straight to Ibadan where the team is camping to meet up with their
colleagues.
The players arrived at the Murtala Muhammed Airport at about 1.30pm same day.
Speaking
to reporters at the airport, club chairman Chukwuma Ubah hailed the
historic event and urged the players to do their best so they can earn
their contracts with the club.
The chairman also noted that though not all players will be signed, at least two or three of the players will be signed.
He
said: “This season we decided that even if you are a Messi or Ronaldo,
you have to touch the ball in Nigeria. We have insisted that whoever
must play for us must touch the ball and after they must have gone
through the trials then we will determine who will be signed.”
“If
you agree with me, Ifeanyi Ubah (club owner) is someone that goes for
near perfection, we know only God is perfect, we try to put finesse in
anything we do. We don’t go for little measures, we aim so high.
“As
it is, our target is to bring good football into Nigeria and it is an
opportunity for anyone who will be playing with them to learn from
them.”
He also hailed the League Management Company’s support of the club and its ambitions.
Speaking
further, the chairman said the players will be fully paid their
salaries without any issues. He also said the club has an agreement with
English club West Ham United and a Brazilian club which involves the
transfers of players amongst other logistics.
The
team owned by oil business mogul Ifeanyi Ubah ended in the 11th
position last season as they could only manage 50 points from 38 games.
