German police train Nigerian law enforcement operatives

The German Federal Criminal Police (GFCP) on Tuesday in Lagos commenced an eight-day training programme for operatives of law enforcement agencies in Nigeria.


Mr Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), made this known in a statement given to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

2018 World Cup: Super Eagles begin training for Swaziland tie

The Super Eagles will begin training on Tuesday in preparation for Friday’s first-leg second round fixture in Lobamba for their FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifier against Swaziland.


Toyin Ibitoye, Super Eagles Media Officer, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said the decision to begin training on Tuesday followed the slow pace of players’ arrival.


Enyimba win NPFL title for record seventh time


Enyimba Football Club of Aba are champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

The People’s Elephant held fellow contenders, Warri Wolves, to a goalless draw in front of over 40,000 fans at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Sunday.

It is a record seventh league title for Enyimba and they have clinched it with a round of matches left.

The draw took them to 69 points, six clear of Warri Wolves, who will likely finish in second place and qualify for next year’s CAF Champions League.

Golden Eaglets defeat Mali to win fifth U-17 World Cup title

Nigeria defeated African champions Mali 2-0 to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.

Tournament’s top scorer Victor Osimhen and Funsho Bamgboye scored in the second half, to seal a record fifth title for the Golden Eaglets.


Falconets win in South Africa to qualify for World Cup

Nigeria’s U-20 women team defeated South Africa 1-0 on Sunday, to book their place in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea.

The Falconets won the first leg of the encounter 2-1 and Chiwendu Ihezuo’s winner, was enough to see off Basetsana at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa.

It is the fifth time Nigeria has qualified for the tournament.



They will be joined by either Ghana or Ethiopia as Africa’s two flag bearers at the competition.

Ozil breaks Premier League assists record


Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil, became the first player in Premier League history to provide assists in six consecutive league matches on Sunday.

Kieran Gibbs bundled in the German’s cross in the 77th minute, to secure a 1-1 draw with Tottenham at the Emirates.


Ozil has been the Gunners’ creative force this season and has helped them to five wins and a draw across those six games.



In total, Ozil has provided 10 assists in the opening 11 matches of the Premier League campaign.



Arsenal are joint top with Manchester City, trailing only on goals difference.

Despite going one man down in the second half, Enyimba held Warri Wolves to a 0-0 draw at the Enyimba Sports Stadium to win a record-breaking seventh Nigeria Professional Football League title.

Kadiri Ikhana’s men dominated the game, but failed to convert the chances they created.

Ruud Gullit claims Chelsea have lost their fear factor and are like Tiger Woods these days.

Head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 team, Emmanuel Amuneke, has revealed that the changes he made in the second half is the reason they won against Mali.

The Golden Eaglets defeated the African champions 2-0 in the final, to win their fifth U-17 World Cup on Monday morning.

“We wanted to make no mistakes but we lost the ball many times in the midfield in the first half. But I don’t want to complain because they are all kids. We changed some things in the second half and made some substitutions. That brought us more safety in our game,” Amuneke said.

Emmanuel Amuneke’s boys failed to find their fluency in the first half and missed a penalty in the early exchanges, when Osinachi Ebere’s effort was saved by Samuel Diarra.

However, Osimhen found space in the area to finish first time past Diarra – his 10th of the competition. He is also the first player to score in every game of the championship.

Bamgboye then rifled past a static goalkeeper three minutes later.

FIFA U-17 World Cup: Osimhen wins Golden Boot, Nwakali emerges MVP


Two members of the victorious U-17 Nigerian team, that successfully defended their World Cup title in Chile, have been rewarded for their sparkling performances.

Victor Osimhen, who scored in all the matches and finished the tournament with a record-breaking 10 goals, was awarded the Golden Boot and the Silver Ball.


Captain Kelechi Nwakali, who has emerged as a target for Manchester City, was rated as the best player at the championship and also won the Bronze Boot after scoring three goals.


Diarra Samuel of Mali won the best goalkeeper, while his team-mate Aly Malle was awarded the Bronze Ball winner.
