Victorious Golden Eaglets to arrive Nigeria Wednesday


Nigeria’s U-17 team, who won the just concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, are expected to arrive Abuja on Wednesday.
 
The Golden Eaglets will be hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari on arrival.

Victor Osimhen and Funsho Bamgboye scored for Nigeria, as they defeated African champions Mali 2-0 in the final played early on Monday.


It is the fifth time Nigeria will win the age group competition – a new record.
The Emmanuel Amuneke-led team departed Santiago for Nigeria on Monday aboard an Emirates Airline, according to a top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Also expecting the team is the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

Dgara posted on his Twitter page: “You have made us proud and proved your mettle. We await your return with the trophy.”

President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Monday congratulated the Golden Eaglets for winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the fifth time and said the nation was extremely proud of their victory.


Saraki who was jubilant after watching the lads emerge winners’ and crowned champions of the world, reiterated his hope in the future of the nation’s football.

The president said Sunday’s victory was a clear indication that the indomitable spirit of Nigerians was still active.

President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick has said that President Muhammadu Buhari deserves a mention in the Guinness Book of Records.


The NFF boss said this on Monday in Santiago as he boarded a flight to Buenos Aires on the way back home from a success story at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.


2018 World Cup: Super Eagles begin training for Swaziland tie

The Super Eagles will begin training on Tuesday in preparation for Friday’s first-leg second round fixture in Lobamba for their FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifier against Swaziland.


Toyin Ibitoye, Super Eagles Media Officer, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said the decision to begin training on Tuesday followed the slow pace of players’ arrival.

The number in the Super Eagles training camp, was swelled by the arrivals of Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi and Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho.


Mikel Obi arrived on Tuesday morning aboard a British Airways flight and was already speaking tough ahead of the match against Swaziland.

Popular Nigerian musician, born Bisade Ologunde, popularly known as Lagbaja, has come hard on his colleagues in the showbiz industry, saying they prefer to show off than to seek for knowledge.

He said, “My colleagues in the industry who need this knowledge are not here, but will show up for the red carpet event, which they feel is more important.


“Lagbaja is happening today because I learnt to take care of the business side,” the ‘Omo Jayejaye’ crooner added.

Anima who also agreed to the fact that there are things that remain mystical and inexplicable, said there is a force of some sort. He said “We are talking about something that is not human so a human name is not necessary,” she stated.
